We received a ‘GIANT’ welcome at the SSE Arena to carry out all-important eye health checks.
The Stena Line Belfast Giants took time off the ice to get a comprehensive eye health check from our Optometrist. We made sure that not only the players are performing with 20/20 vision, but also that the coaches and staff too. We discussed the importance of looking after your eyes, both on the ice and off the ice and provided an extra level of comfort and care for them all.
Adam Keefe, head coach of the Belfast Giants commented,
“Cathedral Eye Clinic’s team are at the top of what they do and their drive to always be at the forefront in their industry is something that our organisation respects. We know our players’ vision is critical to making big saves, scoring goals, and ultimately winning games, so we’re excited to work with the best.”
Optometrist Claire Dowey carried out eye health checks using two machines: an Autorefractor which helps us see what prescription there is and a TeleEye scan which is used to analyse images of the back of the eye with the use of AI technology.
Alongside this, Claire tested the Giants on:
- Visual Activity
- Intraocular Pressure Measurement
- Ocular Motility and Cover Test to check eye muscle movements
- Hand to eye coordination test
As the official laser eye and eye health partner for the Belfast Giants, we like to ensure the Giants keep their eyes on the prize.
Joyce Shaw, Clinical Services Director at Cathedral Eye Clinic said,
“The team entrust our expert clinicians with all aspects of their Eye Health, ensuring they are playing with optimal vision, allowing them to stay focused on the puck, teammates and opponents!”
