Professional Bio

Shona has worked in both primary and secondary care settings across Northern Ireland over the past several years. A graduate of the University of Ulster in 2017, she has since attained the Professional Certificate in Paediatrics and recently completed the Theory of Independent Prescribing, with full qualification expected in the near future.

During her time at Cathedral Eye Clinic, Shona has undergone specialised training in laser refractive surgery treatment and planning. Her responsibilities include regular assistance in the laser theatre, conducting advanced treatment planning, performing foreign body removal, and fitting punctal plugs and amniotic membranes.

 

Clinical Specialties

At Cathedral Eye Clinic, Shona delivers a range of specialist services including refractive surgery suitability assessments, specialist laser refractive surgery planning, and post-operative care. She also co-manages patients in partnership with local optometrists and monitors their progress through the clinic’s online portal. Shona works closely with the Consultant Ophthalmologists at Cathedral Eye Clinic to advance services, with a particular focus on Cataract and Refractive Surgery. She also contributes to community outreach by delivering eye health screenings to local businesses and has facilitated professional workshops for optometry colleagues in areas such as corneal foreign body removal.
