LASIK Laser Eye Surgery

The world’s most popular laser treatment

Overview

LASIK, which stands for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, works by gently reshaping the cornea to correct how light focuses on the retina.

The procedure treats short-sightedness, long-sightedness, and astigmatism, often delivering improved vision within hours of treatment.

What is LASIK Eye Surgery?

LASIK has an exceptional track record spanning over 30 years.

As one of the most commonly practiced laser eye surgeries worldwide, LASIK delivers overwhelmingly successful results, with the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery reporting a 96% patient satisfaction rate.

One of the most attractive elements of LASIK is the rapid recovery period, with most patients noticing improved vision within 24 hours and resuming normal activities within a few days.

At Cathedral Eye Clinic, our experienced consultant surgeons use the latest technology to deliver precise, predictable results.

During the procedure, your surgeon creates a thin protective flap on the surface of your cornea using a precision laser. This flap is gently lifted, and the underlying corneal tissue is reshaped according to your unique prescription – a process that takes just 20-60 seconds per eye.

The flap is then repositioned, where it naturally bonds without the need for stitches.

The entire procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, administered via eye drops, so you won’t feel any pain.

LASIK effectively corrects:

  • Short-sightedness (myopia)
  • Long-sightedness (hyperopia)
  • Astigmatism

Am I Suitable for LASIK?

LASIK is suitable for most adults aged 21 and over with a stable prescription.

You may be eligible if you:

During your free suitability consultation, our optometrists will assess several factors including your prescription strength and stability, corneal thickness and shape, general eye health, and any underlying conditions that may affect healing.

If LASIK isn’t suitable for you, we offer alternative treatments including SMILE laser surgery and TransPRK.

Benefits

An advanced, no-touch surface laser procedure that combines exceptional precision with a proven clinical track record – tailored to your eyes, your prescription, your life.

Proven Track Record
LASIK has been successfully performed worldwide for over 30 years, with the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery reporting a 96% patient satisfaction rate. Millions of people have achieved clearer vision through this trusted procedure.
Virtually Painless
LASIK laser eye surgery has been highlighted as a comparatively pain free procedure. LASIK is performed using anaesthetic eye drops, ensuring a comfortable, pain-free experience from start to finish.
Treats a Wide Range of Prescriptions
LASIK can effectively correct mild to moderate short-sightedness, long-sightedness, and astigmatism. During your consultation, our surgeons will assess whether your prescription falls within the treatable range and recommend the best option for your individual needs.
Cost-Effective Long-term
While LASIK is an initial investment, many patients find it pays for itself over time. When you factor in the ongoing costs of glasses, contact lenses, solutions, and routine replacements over the years, LASIK can be a financially smart choice that also offers the convenience of clear, natural vision.
