Dr Vasuki Gnana Jothi, MBBS, MS (Ophthalmology), DRCOphth, MRCOphth, FRCOphth, is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal conditions, cataract surgery and vitreoretinal disease. Miss Jothi has performed more than 5000 cataract surgeries and various vitreoretinal surgeries. She is a substantive Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast Health & Social Care Trust, where she has worked since 2017, and also provides ophthalmology services at Southern Trust. She has held a specialist interest in vitreo-retinal surgery and medical retina throughout her consultant career.
Miss Gnana Jothi completed seven years of structured ophthalmology training with the Northern Ireland Deanery between 2007 and 2015, following postgraduate training in Ophthalmology in India. She subsequently completed a Post-CCT Surgical and Medical Retina Fellowship in Belfast and a Vitreo-Retinal Fellowship at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham.
She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and holds a Masters degree in Ophthalmology from The Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University in Chennai, India.
Alongside her clinical work, Miss Gnana Jothi has significant experience in clinical leadership, education and service development. Since 2019, she has served as Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology within the Southern Health and Social Care Trust and contributes to the training and supervision of ophthalmology trainees.
Miss Gnana Jothi has an active interest in ophthalmic research, particularly in retinal disease, retinal imaging, cataract surgery and intraocular lenses. She has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and presented research at international ophthalmology meetings.
She was awarded the Clinical Director’s Medal for Service Improvement in Ophthalmology by Belfast Trust in 2020.
