- Set-price surgical procedure, tailored to you

What Treatments Are Covered by Insurance?
Typically Covered
Private medical insurance typically covers medically necessary eye conditions, including:
- Cataract surgery
- Glaucoma treatment
- Retinal conditions and procedures
- Corneal Procedures
- Oculoplastic treatments
Typically Not Covered
Refractive procedures such as:
- Laser eye surgery (SMILE / LASIK / TRANSPRK)
- Refractive lens exchange
are usually considered lifestyle treatments and are not covered by insurance.
For these, we offer flexible finance options.
Using Your Insurance
We aim to make using your insurance as straightforward as possible.
- Confirm your level of cover
- Request a pre-authorisation code
- Check if a GP or optometrist referral is required
- Please have your pre-authorisation code ready to secure your booking
- Share your insurer name and membership number
- Your insurer will issue the relevant procedure code
- They'll confirm authorisation in line with your policy
Upgrade Your Lenses
For cataract surgery, most insurance providers typically cover the cost of standard intraocular lenses.
At Cathedral Eye Clinic, we often recommend premium lens options where clinically appropriate, as these can enhance visual quality and provide a greater range of focus, supporting more natural, functional vision.
Any additional fees reflect the difference between the standard lens covered by your insurer and the upgraded premium lens selected as part of your personalised treatment plan.
| Lens Type | Additional Cost |
|---|---|
| Standard monofocal lenses | No additional cost |
| Toric Lens | £600 per eye |
| Multifocal/Blended Vision/EDOF | from £1200 per eye |
| Toric Multifocal/Blended Vision/EDOF | from £1800 per eye |
Combining Insurance & Self-Pay
In some cases, patients choose to use:
- insurance for medically necessary treatment, and self-fund or
- finance premium upgrades (e.g. advanced lenses).
