Overview of Ms. Madi’s Credentials:
- Ms Silvana Madi is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with over 11 years experience in cornea, cataract and refractive (including laser) treatments / surgeries.
- Working out of Princess Alexandra Hospital in London, with a weekly clinic / theatre in Cathedral Eye Clinic, Belfast, the clinic is delighted to receive the services of this highly-respected, capable and versatile surgeon.
- Ms Madi has completed over 10,000 cataract / IOL procedures and over 1,000 corneal transplants. Silvana has also conducted more than 500 laser procedures.
- She has published various international research papers in corneal surgery and comes with a high level of recognition from peers.
Her experience to date has refined Ms. Madi’s ability to provide a fast, first class and highly focused contribution to the unique demands on the Ophthalmology service at Southend Hospital. In her senior role as a Consultant, Ms Madi has operated as a high volume cataract surgeon who is responsible for the training of juniors for cataract and cornea surgeries. She is also adept at independently and regularly performing and managing all cornea surgeries, and train juniors doctors to perform such surgeries.
Ms Madi’s fellowship in refractive surgery, cornea and external diseases was the first at IRFO Eye Institute, Italy with Professor Massimo Busin – one of the eminent leaders in Cornea transplantation, then in Southend Hospital.
Silvana has gained excellent experience in general ophthalmology. She is proficient in carrying out cataract surgery including complex cases, such as post-vitrectomy eyes, small pupils, etc. Furthermore, her broad experience across all ophthalmic subspecialties means that, at Princess Alexandria Hospital, she confidently deals with cases as a general ophthalmologist as well as in Glaucoma and Cornea. Ms. Madi has performed over 40 iStent procedures for Glaucoma patients managing all complex and high risk Glaucoma cases at Princess Alexandria Hospital.
Ms. Madi has participated in International conference courses related to new corneal transplantation techniques and has published several journal articles. She has presented more than 17 papers to international conferences that have been very well received.
From a laser perspective, Ms. Madi was involved in the early development of the Zeiss Visumax technology for SMILE as well as other laser surgery techniques, under the supervision and mentorship of Prof. Osama Ibrahim. Ms. Madi has also performed more than 300 SMILE treatments – all with exemplary results.
