The Roles 

An exciting opportunity has emerged within Cathedral Eye Clinic to help grow our expanding team. We are recruiting for a Part Time team of Registered Nurses and Healthcare Assistants to work Evening Clinics (up to 9pm) within our Belfast facility. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within our ophthalmic clinic/hospital which provides the highest standards of care. 

Registered Nurse Requirements:

  • Admissions nurse: Ensuring that all patients proceeding to surgery have had the opportunity to understand the potential risks and benefits of treatment.
  • Assisting within the anaesthetic room: preparing patients for their cataract/laser/Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) treatment and undertaking pre-screening diagnostic duties.
  • Ensuring ‘file preparation’ prior to treatment day is actioned in order to minimise potential complications, cancellations/ postponement. Liaising with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure outstanding issues are addressed prior to surgery.
  • Discharging patients from surgery with appropriate prescribed medication and advice, including emergency contact numbers. Arranging follow up care.
  • Ensuring patient care is appropriate and individual requests are accommodated as far as is reasonable and safe.
  • Aptitude to learn how to operate the ophthalmic laser equipment, with training provided where required.

Job Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse. Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct /Health Professions Council.
  • Participating as a member of the theatre nursing team, in anaesthetics, scrub, circulating and recovery also roles outside the theatre environment.
  • Collaborating with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient patient management.
  • Ophthalmic experience is highly desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.

 

 

 

Health Care Assistant Requirements:

 

  • Involvement in all aspects of the Ophthalmic services including Pre and Post-Operative care.
  • Co-ordinating and controlling patient flow on surgery days, minimising waiting times, dealing with patient queries.
  • Theatre rooms set up/clean down.
  • Assisting the surgeons within the clinic, including injection clinics
  • Discharge process of surgical patients in instructing the patient on post procedure care.
  • Restocking exams rooms, treatment rooms and consultation rooms.
  • Assisting the Nurse Manager with the ordering of stock.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Background in Healthcare, ideally Ophthalmology.
  • Experience working in a Hospital/Acute/Theatre Environment.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Healthcare or equivalent.
  • Passionate for high quality patient safety and care.
  • Excellent communication skills.
