Eye Health | Cathedral Eye Clinic

Cathedral Eye Clinic offer a range of services to improve your eye health:

Retina Treatments – The retina is the sensory tissue within the eye and can be affected by conditions including diabetes, retinal detachments and degenerative conditions like macular holes, vitreous floaters and complicated cataract surgery.

Oculoplastics & Eyelid Treatments – Oculoplastics is a specialised field that includes the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of problems with the eyelids, orbits (bony socket around the eye) and the lacrimal system (the tear drainage system, including the watery eye). Our dedicated Ophthalmic Consultants, who routinely perform such complex surgery, always deliver a high quality and personalised service at Cathedral Eye Clinic.

Cathedral Dry Eye Centre – Dry Eyes are one of the most common ocular surface problems seen by ophthalmologists today, with over 4 million patients in the UK estimated to suffer from the condition. It occurs when an individual does not produce enough tears or the composition of the tears is abnormal and cannot adequately cover the surface of the eye.

Keratoconus – Keratoconus is a non-inflammatory eye condition where the normally round, dome-shaped cornea progressively deteriorates, causing a cone-like growth to develop. This results in significant vision difficulties. This cone shape deflects light as it enters the eye on its way to the light-sensitive retina, causing obstructed vision.

Glaucoma – Glaucoma is a disease which results in progressive damage to the optic nerve. The prevalence of this disease has been estimated through various studies to be in the region of 2% of the population. This rate rises considerably with age so that over the age of 80 greater than 12% of the population may be affected. Often glaucoma goes undetected until significant visual loss has occurred.

DOUBLE VISION (DIPLOPIA) –Binocular diplopia is a disturbing visual symptom relating to the misalignment of the eyes. One of your eyes may start to turn inwards, outwards, upwards, downwards or any combination of these. It can occur suddenly or can be of gradual onset over a period of weeks or months.
